Eco-therapy, often enacted and known as walk-and-talk therapy, involves real-world exposure and in-person contact. Therapists utilize community spaces such as parks, gardens, trails, and metropolitan areas to enable client-led walking and psychotherapy discourse. Sessions will include a combination of walking, standing, and sitting. Therapists will provide interventions, as appropriate, to individual psychotherapy processes.
Eco-therapy sessions may be incorporated into existing treatment plans or offered as an adjunct service for support of mental health needs. Therapists and clients maintain adherence to COVID-19 risk-reduction measures, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Aligned with positive psychology and the ‘Good Life Model’, Eco-therapy is offered as an evidenced-based treatment option. This service may be especially helpful to those experiencing sedentary lifestyles, isolation, difficulty coping, despair, anxiety, lethargy, sleep difficulties, poor self-esteem, and negative body image.
